ShowjumperTeigan McNamara T eigan’

eigan Mcnamara, an 18 year old showjumper from Chalfont St. Peter in Buckinghamshire is fast working

her way up in the International circuit. She is 5 times Hickstead Champion (youngest) and recently represented GB at her first International at Bolesworth Castle.

As we go to press, we’ve just heard of T

s latest success with the mare, April

Love, who won the 1.10m Championship at Hickstead. This dedicated young rider runs her own showjumping stables and has built up a team of horses and backers. She is also a well known and active social media influencer @equestrianxteigan.

How did you get involved with horses? I got involved with horses aſter my first riding lesson at a local riding school. It was a present from my parents for my 5th birthday. I had one lesson weekly and soon caught the bug for the sport and haven’t looked back since.

Who was your first horse or pony? I was given my first pony ‘ Timmy Tiptoes’ an 128m bay gelding, for my 6th birthday. He was a allrounder pony but not brave cross country so showjumping was his main thing. He gave me plenty of experience around local shows and brought home numerous red rosettes. Towards the end of my time with him we affiliated and jumped in 70&80cm pony open classes. We then sold him to another little girl to learn the ropes.

Tell us about some of the horses you have on the yard now My stables, Brawlings Equestrian, currently consists of a small team of 4 horses; Arty, Casino, Boston and April. Arty & Casino are both up and coming

novices, who are slowly being produced through the ranks. They are both extremely well bred and have potential to go to the top.

April Love, is a new ride of mine. She is a

10 year old bay mare out of Unbelievable Darco. At just our first show together, we won a class at the Hickstead Royal International Horse Show alongside two 2nds and a 3rd. She is a lovely mare with a willing attitude.

And finally the main man, Boston III. He’s

a 13 year old grey gelding who we purchased from my friend Lana Cracker. We were looking for a horse to introduce me to the horse tracks and came across him. He wouldn’t be everyone’s ride as he’s quirky but we seem to click as a combination. He is unbeatable against the clock and very careful. As good as he is in the ring he is a handful on the floor and couldn’t be handled

How did show jumping become your discipline? It became very clear soon aſter having my own pony that showjumping was every- thing I wanted to do; the bigger the jumps the better. I’m lucky to have supportive parents who provided me with endless opportunities to gain a lot of experience at a young age.

by just anyone, he is a bit of a wimp and likes to be treated like a princess.

What has been your most recent success? Most recently I have had the chance to compete at my first FEI CSI** At Bolesworth Castle, Boston III brought home two lower placings and qualified for the Grand Prix. It was a fantastic venue to jump at and the show was a credit to Nina Barbour and her team.

What is your greatest acheivement? To date my greatest achievement is winning five Hickstead classes in a year. To win one Hickstead rug alone is a dream come true but to have five in my tack room makes me extremely happy.

What aim and ambitions do you have? I am currently a looking for a youngster to purchase and produce for 4 year old age classes next year. On the other hand I would like to step up

Boston amd April for the Vilamoura Atlantic tour in Portugal. We are based abroad for a month early next year jumping 3 days a week.

I am extremely lucky to have my Trainer- Barry Dove on hand to drive the horses and train me whilst there. Boston and Arty will continue to gain

expertise on the national circuit back in England.

What is your ‘can’t live without’ piece of equipment or clothing? My can’t live without piece of equipment is my Charles Owen SP8 hat. Aſter having a nasty fall at the start of the year and smashing my hat up. I oſten wonder what could have happened without it. I escaped lightly with just a broken nose and a few fractures to my face. My go to clothing is from Chillout Horsewear.

I can’t compete without my White Sport competition breeches which are breathable
