he five-day New- ark International


Film Festival (NIFF) from September 4 through 8 showcases


the innovation and breadth of the film industry. It maximizes exposure for films, screenplays or series by drawing film and en- tertainment leaders from both New York City and Los Angeles. Events include screenings at a number of cultural anchor in-


stitutions and outdoor screenings, stunt exhibitions, pitch oppor- tunities and auditions for TV and film. Celebrity panels include acting, directing, producing, crowdfunding workshops and much more.


Te festival provides engaging experiences for attendees


such as pop-up concerts from hip hop to jazz, house to gospel and more, as well as a televised awards and entertainment show- case and a film scavenger hunt. A main feature of the NIFF is the Hannibal Goodwin Award


for Innovation in Filmmaking in homage to Hannibal Goodwin, the Episcopal priest who invented celluloid film 1887 in Newark.

Charity Under the Sea


he second annual ALS Chocolate Meltdown


Party will take place at 6:30 p.m., September 26, at the Ad- venture Aquarium, in Cam- den. Te only nonprofit in the U.S. with this specific mission, Hope Loves Company is dedi- cated to providing emotional and educational support to chil- dren and young adults that have or have had a loved one battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Tis is their premier fundraising event. At a VIP reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m., guests will get to


spend time in the main aquarium aſter hours with a champagne bar, hors d’oeuvres, a raw seafood bar, pasta bar and hands-on interaction with live exhibits, including a chance to meet one- on-one with a penguin. VIPs will also receive a chance to win the 50/50 raffle. Te main event will take place in the Currents Ballroom and


Shark Realm from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Guests can walk through the shark tunnel while enjoying an open bar, food, chocolate foun- tains, and every type of sweet treat imaginable. Tere will be a silent auction where everyone can bid on incredible trips, experi- ences, sports tickets and memorabilia, and more.
