s part of Jersey City’s compost drop-off pilot, Sustainable Jersey City (SJC) is lead-
ing a series of workshops focused on compost: how to make it, how to use it and how the compost drop-off pilot is closing the loop of food waste recycling in Jersey City. Come with family, friends, and of course, your food scraps! All workshops run from 9:30 to 11a.m. Kids are welcome, but no more than one per adult. Workshops are led by SJC co-executive director, Tyler Randall; Mike Recchia, SJC
treasurer and board member; and Owen Lee, SJC member and founder of OurCompost, a New Jersey organics pick-up and composting service. Composting items include beans, coffee grounds, bread, fruit, eggshells, flowers, grains, pasta, rice, tea bags and vegetables.
September 28: Brunswick Community Garden, 174-176 Brunswick Street. Food scraps can be dropped off Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. October 5: Riverview Community Garden, 285 Ogden Avenue. Food scraps can be dropped off at Riverview Farmers’ Market (Palisades Avenue, between Bowers and Griffith streets) Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. October 12: Mandela Community Garden, 447 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Food scraps can be dropped off Fridays between 7 and 10 a.m.

he annual All About Downtown Street Fair will be held from noon to 8 p.m.,
September 21, between Grove and Coles streets, in Jersey City. It began in 2011 featur- ing more than 100 vendors selling a variety of products ranging from handmade jewelry to one-of-a-kind art work. In 2018, the event brought over 40,000 people into the down- town corridor. Tis year, more than 200 vendors will be selling everything from vintage clothes and
hand-poured candles to gyros and arepas. Tere’s a Kidszone area with rides, face paint- ing and kid-friendly vendors. Local bars and restaurants set up outdoor beer gardens and rum bars.
