Our water quality has just been downgraded from four stars to three stars. We have some of the purest, natural water in the country, so it makes you wonder what is being put into our water and why. Will it go further down the scale when the new source is switched on in 2022?


Chris Bower, very concerned Action on Climate Change!


Climate Emergency West Cumbria (CEWC) is a newly formed group meeting in Cockermouth, to take action in halting climate change.


Our forthcoming actions include urging Allerdale Borough Council to declare a Climate Emergency at their next council meeting on the 25th September. If you want to take action too, please join us and come along. Our next meetings will be at the Friends Meeting House, 65 Kirkgate, at 7.30pm on the 15th August and then the 6th September.

COURSE SUITABILITY


Beginners (level 1). Suitable for people who have never practised Pilates before. You will learn the basic principles of abdominal hollowing, scapula and pelvic placement, neutral spine alignment and lateral breathing. New courses start every half term. Once you have completed the beginner’s course you will be guided to the most appropriate level for you.


Mat/Back Care Pilates (level 2). Suitable for people who have completed the beginner course. Adaptations can be made to accommodate some joint and medical conditions at this level.


Essential (level 3). Aimed at developing balance, strength, mobility and flexibility in standing as well as on the mat.


Intermediate (level 4). Suitable for individuals who are ready for a challenge. You will learn more demanding and complex sequences of exercises, which will test co-ordination, flexibility, strength and stability. It is advised that you can perform the Full Roll Up and hold a full plank position with correct technique and alignment before enrolling on an Intermediate course.

Ballet Barre Pilates. A fun focused standing class at the Barre that incorporates both Ballet and Pilates principles to strengthen your legs and arms. Working at the Barre will make you sweat to help burn fat while toning up.


Simple Stretch. Improve flexibility with self-myofascial release using Foam Rollers and Prickle Stimulating Balls along with stretches to improve muscle length and reduce tension.


Baby Yoga. Introduce baby to gentle stretching and strengthening yoga based exercises. Baby Yoga can help to soothe an anxious baby.
