BUSINESS REPORT

MAKING SPACE FOR START-UPS

With business customers now using nearly half of the 44.6m sq ft of storage space in the country, Corby’s newest self- storage provider, Blue Bear, is doing its bit to support business start-ups. Three years ago, Blue Bear

Self Storage owners, George Hanbury and James Jackson- Stops, needed storage space and were horrified at the costs charged by companies in the traditionally recognised self- storage sector. They set about investigating alternative storage options and, finding very little that fitted the bill, they created it themselves. Over the last two years, the

company has grown rapidly, and in June their third self- storage site officially opened in Corby. To coincide with this

milestone, Blue Bear launched their ‘Bear Essentials Business’ initiative, offering one local start-up free container storage for a year at the Blue Bear Corby site. The initiative aims to enable a fledgling business to keep overheads down and grow sustainably during its critical start-up phase. James said: “We know what

it’s like when funds are tight. During our first two years of business, we were fortunate to be able to pull in some favours that helped us keep costs down, and now we want to pay it forward.” Any north

Northamptonshire business established in the past 12 months is eligible to apply for the ‘Bear Essentials Business’ initiative until 31 July. George added: “We intend

to run this initiative annually. north Northamptonshire is primed for significant growth, and we want to be part of its prosperous economy, lending a hand where we can.”
