News ‘Kidnap’ call
POLICE are investigating reports of an attempted kidnapping of two young children outside shops in Bearsted. Martine Bonner Jones warned
parents on Facebook: “Please be alert, there has been an attempted kidnapping atMadginford shops. “Aman in a black BMWtried to
get an eight-year-old in his car. Police are out looking for him.” A spokesman for Kent Police
said: “At around 6.10pm on Sun- day, June 16, Kent Police received a third party report stating a car being driven by a man had ap- proached two children in Egre- mont Road, Bearsted. “Officers searched the area but
the vehiclewas not located.” Enquiries are ongoing.
Variety night
A FUNDRAISER in aid of Holy Cross Church in Bearsted is to be held on July 6. The variety evening at the

A LEEDS school boy has won first place at the first ever junior World Crazy Golf Champi- onships. Nine-year-old Cameron Fincher
attendedthe 12-hole tournament at Hastings Adventure Golf on Fri- day, June 7. The Leeds and Broomfield Pri-
mary School pupil travelled all the way from the family home in Wykeham Grove in Leeds village with his dad, Dave, to attend the championships and bring home thewin forMaidstone.He shot an impressive 25points andcame first by one shot. His mum Debbie
said:
“Cameron has been playing golf since he was about five years old but only recently got into crazy golf this year.Hehas only attended a couple of tournaments so
far.My husband introduced him to the sport on holidays and family days out, but Cameron really took to it. “Hewasupagainst 37 other chil-
dren aged between eight and 14 so he was one of the youngest chil- dren there. It is the first time they have ever done a junior category, so he did sowell.He stayed for the Saturday tournament as well, where he playedagainst the adults and came 13th. “The junior competition was a
very close match but he has al- ready applied for next year’s tour- nament as the organisers have now announced the details for 2020.” A spokesman for Hastings Ad-
venture Golf said: “Having only played the course once before and travelling down all the way from Maidstone, he shot an impressive 25 to take the title by one shot. CongratulationsCameron, the first ever World Crazy Golf Junior Champion.” This year’s tournament was the
first time in theWorld Crazy Golf Championships’ 17-year history that a junior category, for children aged eight to 14,was included.
