Artist’s work accepted for Summer Exhibition
WORK by a local artist has been selected fromover 1,800 entries to appear alongside paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints by some of Britain’s leading artists, writes Jade Schopman. Antonia Enthoven, pictured,
submitted two pieces of her art to be showcased at the Royal Acad- emy Summer Exhibition in Lon- don. One piece was of the lighthouses on Dungeness beach and the otherwas a recently sold- out print of a house she had seen in Barcelona. Etchings are created by im-
printing an image onto hand- made plates and then inking it. Mrs Enthoven said: “The Sum-
mer Exhibition is one of the biggest art events of the year, it’s an open call sort of thing so all wood of the world can apply. I was so honoured to be accepted as therewere over 1,000 entries. “The application is done digi- tally and the second round con-
sists of actually bringing your work into the gallery. This has been an absolutely fabulous op- portunity. I have always gone as a viewer and now my work is being seen by thousands.” Mrs Enthoven (56), of Lower Street in LeedsVillage, ismarried
to Jon, with whom she has three grown-up children. She attended The Central St Martin’s and Brighton School ofArt after herA Levels, and went on to train pro- fessionally in Brighton. She has been a retired illustra-
tor for over 10 years now, but has continuedwith her etchingwork. Mrs Enthoven added: “I am a
member of theArt SpringGallery, which is an artist-run gallery in Tonbridge. I would say that is where I have learned themost on a very professional platform. “Alot ofmywork is inspired by
Kent and the countryside and coasts. But my Barcelona piece is really displaying night and day in one image.” Running continuously for 250
years, the Summer Exhibition is the world’s oldest open submis- sion exhibition, meaning that anyone can enter theirwork to be considered. The Summer Exhibi- tion runs untilAugust 12.
