have recently been reading Becoming, the brilliant memoir by Michelle Obama. There is one section that particularly resonated


with me, where she discusses the importance of networking. At a time when she was deciding on where to take her career, she made a point of meeting lots of different people and taking every opportunity to network. While Obama talks about attending events and meeting


people in person, her attitude can still pay dividends when applied to the online world. The reach of social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, is vast, and offers fantastic opportunities for networking and income generation.


LinkedIn LinkedIn works best when building your own professional profile, as well as networking on behalf of your


organisation. If you are setting an account up for yourself, use a good-quality headshot for your profile image. Take the time to accurately fill in all the information sections, including your experience, education and skills. Think of your LinkedIn profile as being a sophisticated business card, so keep your profile and status up to date, and the content engaging. You never know where a new
