FANTASTIC PLASTIC

The best reason to pick plastic is its outstanding versatility. Themed environments, in terms of both look and feel, can be easily created with the vast colour palette and design features available in moulded furniture. Compared to wood, plastic tends to be more flexible when it comes to arrangement as it’s typically much lighter and designed for individual, rather than group, seating. Stackable options open up the possibility for storage when not in use, and the high quality variants can easily double up as indoor furniture, again allowing consistency to flow beyond indoor spaces.

Speaking about specifics, there are two types of plastic commonly used for venue furniture.

The first is polypropylene, commonly referred to as polyprop, which comes in a matt finish and is very hard. We tend to recommend polyprop when furniture will

be used predominantly outside. The Air and Bakery ranges are very popular polyprop chair styles, with both coming in just about any colour imaginable to compliment a huge variety of table styles.

The second commonly available plastic choice is polycarbon. This option is softer and more flexible than polyprop, making it ideal to bring inside when required. Design options are almost unlimited, ranging from the simple Ares, to the extravagant Crystal chair ranges.

METAL COMBOS

Past simple wood and plastic options, there’s the opportunity to create industrial and French bistro feels with steel furniture, or use aluminium frames in conjunction with other materials. This option not only makes furniture very robust, but also opens up incredible choices in terms of aesthetics and product weight. The Romeo (aluminium and

plastic) and Gent (aluminium and teak) chairs from Contract Furniture Group are great examples of how simple changes can make huge differences in terms of ergonomics and quality perceptions.

PROJECT CASE STUDY

The images below and to the left show the Contract Furniture Group outdoor installation at Piren Meadows, Newquay. Here, Brew style tables and benches were used along with Mezzi tables and polyprop Catalina chairs to create a very vibrant look, while still being very flexible for large and small groups of guests.
