INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRAVEL
With Equiflight Contributed by Sheri Darnall
What is involved when ship- ping a horse across the ocean? How do I choose an Interna-
tional Transport Company? I receive these questions often when someone discovers that I am an Animal Attendant for an Interna- tional Transport Company. I’ve learned my attendant du-
ties and filled up my passport with destinations employed by Katie Schroeder, the owner and operator of Equiflight. She has 10 years of experience in the field of Interna- tional Animal Shipping. Although the majority of her business involves horses, she has also shipped dogs, cattle, and exotics. Whether you are a first time
owner shipping your horse out of the United States or a seasoned veteran, picking the right company is key when using International Equine Transportation. Emphasis in choos- ing your horse’s travel agent should be placed on care both in isolation and on the flight, attention to the de- tails and procedures, and of course communication with the owners.

once someone hires Equiflight to fly their horse to another country,” I ask Katie.
“The first thing is paperwork,”
answers Katie. “I must ensure the horses are up to date on vaccina- tions, including a negative coggins report and I take a detailed medical history. I also discuss travel insur- ance and review the steps that will be taking place.” Once all of the paperwork is
complete and a flight scheduled, the horse is assigned their arrival date to start quarantine at EquiFlight’s Col- linsville, Texas location.
The USDA Isolation Facility Depending on the country of
destination, horses are required to undergo a specific number of days in quarantine, typically 14 to 30 days. Arrival day at the ranch is very
busy. Upon arrival, all paperwork must be checked, the animal evalu- ated for any visual illness or injury and photo documentation taken of his condition upon arrival. This is

New BOLT Off-Vehicle Coupler Lock Deters Trailer Theft
BOLT(r), the innovators of Breakthrough One-Key Lock
Technology, knows the best way to prevent costly trailer theft is with a visible and functional sign of security. To meet this need, the company is introducing its Off-Vehicle Coupler Lock that se- cures a trailer when it’s not attached to a vehicle. The Off-Vehicle Coupler Lock is a new dimension in trailer
security that features BOLT’s patented one-key lock technolo- gy that permanently programs locks to the vehicle’s ignition key for single-key use no matter how many BOLT locks are being used. The lock is easily programmed the first time the ignition key is inserted into the BOLT Lock cylinder through the use of spring-loaded plate tumblers that move up and down to uniquely code the cylinder to that specific key. Made of hardened steel for extra security, the Off-Vehicle
Coupler Lock works with 1 7/8-inch, 2-inch and 2 15/16-inch couplers to keep a variety of trailers secure while unattended. The innovative BOLT lock is a visible theft deterrent that is designed with a unique plate tumbler sidebar to prevent picking and bump- ing. A highly durable powder-coated finish is factory applied to the lock to keep dirt and moisture out while protecting the locking mechanism from harsh weather. “The new BOLT Off-Vehicle Coupler Lock brings the con-
venience of our one-key technology to those who routinely use and store their trailers, said BOLT National Sales Manager Erika Garcia. “This new addition to our lock line is a highly-visible de- terrent that sends would-be thieves on their way and gives trailer owners a piece-of-mind that their investment is secure when not in use. Since the lock works with the vehicle ignition key, you never have to worry about keeping track of an extra key.” In addition to the new BOLT Off-Vehicle Coupler Lock, the
extensive BOLT product line includes Padlocks, Cable Locks, Coupler Pin Locks, King Pin Locking Systems and Receiver Locks as well as a Toolbox Latch Retrofit Kit. For Jeep(r) own- ers, BOLT also offers a J-Mount, a JK hood lock, as well as a spare tire carrier lock. BOLT’s patented technology helps to deter theft in a variety of applications and reduces key clutter by allow- ing use of the ignition key for numerous locks. For more information, visit
