TOMATION
Moore added the alarm industry also has proven to the insurance industry it saves them money in claims if there is a home alarm sys- tem installed.“To the point where the insurance company will give you a discount on your homeowner’s insurance.” Moore explained home automation is an add-on to a home alarm security system and is quite popular these days with new customers. “They want a security benefit for the home automation. Just 15 to
20 years ago a home automation system would be $100,
000.Now you can have almost complete home automation for $5,000 and it does more.” According to Moore, the nice thing about using an alarm system as the basis of the home automation system is a homeowner can use all of the alarm devices as triggers. “So I walk into my family room and the motion detector from the alarm system sees me and turns the light
on.By walking in the room, the light comes on,”he said. A homeowner can put contacts on a liquor, medicine, or gun cabi- net and each time a cabinet is opened a sensor or contact sends an e-mail or a push to the homeowner’s phone to alert of it being
opened. This is a great tool if kids are in the home and a parent would like to monitor certain areas of a home or object.“That kind of thing can be a life saver,”he added. Home automation is definitely becoming the trend in 2019.“That has added to the convenience of the system,”he said.
Crime proofing the inside of your home According to SGI, the goal of indoor crime proofing is to secure
your home and make it appear occupied at all times. Securing your premises — Close blinds and curtains at night,so a burglar can't scope out your belongings. Lock all doors and windows before leaving your home. Lock windows so they can't be opened from the outside. If they can't be locked, you can pin them by drilling a hole through both window frames and insert- ing a bolt or metal
pin.The pin must be easily removable in emergency
situations.Make your home look occupied at all
times.Use timers to maintain normal lighting patterns. Leave a radio on when you are away from your home for short periods of time. Protecting your valuables — Consider marking or engraving
your valuables with a unique identifier known only to you.Take an inventory of your home on a videotape and/or in photo-
graphs.Keep jewelry in a safety deposit box or an unlikely place — not your bedroom.
