Parentswant reviewof ‘dangerous’ play area
A NEW children’s play area in KingsHillhasbeenbrandeddan- gerous by parents. The aviation-themed play-
ground opposite the community centre onGibsonDrive opened on February 25 . One parent told the parish coun-
cil: “The new playground is fan- tastic and my toddler particularly loves the control towermoundand tunnel. “However, the climbing frame is
very dangerous as there is a sheer drop in themiddle. Lots ofmums were saying it is an accident wait- ing to happen and I wonder if the design should be looked at again.” Parents also expressed concern
with the layout of the equipment, suggesting that due to the close proximity of the apparatus and fencing, children could run into a pole or the path of an swing. Theplaygroundwas installedby developer Liberty Property Trust,
Equipment at the new play area in Gibson Drive has been branded dangerous by parents
and was funded by the Kings Hill Residential Estate Management Company, which is financed by residents. Susan Davies, property and es-
tate manager for Liberty Property Trust, said: “KingsHillResidential EstateManagementCompany Ltd appointed HAGS (a recreational equipment company) to install the play equipment, which is manu- factured to complywith European Standardswith all safety surfacing. “The play areawas inspected by
an approved Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents assessor before itwas opened. “An independent audit on the
play equipment and installation was also undertaken byCraigdene Limited, and the inspector ap- proved the installation.” Eleven pieces of brightly
coloured steel play equipment were installed, including a viper swing, telecommunications talk tubes and a “control tower” mound.
