Fine for puing bin out too early


HOUSEHOLDS could face legal action if they put bins out too early or take themin too late. Malling residentswill also suffer


repercussions if they leave rubbish too far fromthe collection point. And, in stringent newrules from


Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, refuse crews will be or- dered to look inside wheelie bins and leave them if there has been any “cross-contamination”. The tough approach has been


approved by councillors as part of an eight-year jointwaste and recy- cling contract between TMBC and TunbridgeWells. A report to TMBC’s street scene


andenvironment services advisory board said: “The collection point will be no further than 10 metres fromwhere the vehicle passes.” It added: “Wheeled bins and


other collection containers must not be left on thepublichighway at any other time than for collection. “Wherewheeled bins are left on


the public highway before or after collection in such away as to cause an obstruction to pedestrians, the householderwill be contacted and advised to remove the bins. “Enforcement actionwill be con-


sideredif householders repeatedly obstruct the highway with their wheeled bin.” News of the plans sparked out-


rage among residents and Downs Mail readers. MaggieMoore said: “Maybe the


bin men will get fined when they abandon bins in the road or block your drive.” Jane Le Ves Conte said: “What


about when they don’t empty the bins even though they did the neighbours either side?” Carol Pocknall added: “Maybe


the bin men would like to stop leavingmy bins fourdoors away?” And Maggie Ann Martin said:


“What aboutwhenweput the bins out on the correct day and they do not come and collect them?”
