MY FAVOURITE THINGS My favourite things

Michaela Suhrcke originally came from Germany. After eight years in Switzerland, she and her husband moved back to London in April 2017 for the second time. Since their son works in London and her daughter is studying in England she was very happy to be reunited with her family in one country and to be back in London.

Your best advice to someone just arriving in the UK? Take advantage of the energetic city. Explore and enjoy London as much as you can. It is a great city and there is so always something to do. Discover the gorgeous countryside and the stunning beaches.

The best place to meet people? FOCUS is a good start to meet people from all over the world.

Your preferred pub, bar or restaurant? Cahoots, the vintage tube-themed cocktail bar in Soho transports you back in time to post-war 1940s. Great fun!

Your favourite place for a

UK weekend? Since my daughter studies in Exeter, we love to travel to Devon for a weekend. Beautiful cathedral, close to the sea and friendly people.

The ultimate boutique or

clothing store? 5MM Design at Great Portland Street is a store with unique affordable design products.

The highlight of your UK

adventure so far. Frieze Art Fair and Lumiere. Your favourite flower shop?

Dovers Flowers is a traditional family run business in Pimlico.

Your favourite expression you have adopted since being here? “Lovely” and “no worries.”

Your preferred mode of transport? We live very central in London, so I love to walk as much as possible. The best

breakfast/brunch/

afternoon tea spot? I love having a cup of tea at Fortnum and Mason. There is a small bar with a good choice of tea, coffee and small bites. Great

atmosphere in a very traditional English surrounding.

The ultimate gourmet food or wine shop?

Whole Foods and Borough Market. 36 FOCUS The Magazine March/April 2019 Your favourite location

for a ‘date night’? Sushi Samba in the City is a place with a fantastic view and great food.

The best spot to

people watch? The Southbank is one of the busiest areas in the heart of London. On a sunny day it is nice to sit down next to the river Thames with a cup of coffee and watch the people from all over the world.

Your favourite place to shop

for the home? There are great furniture shops on Pimlico Road.

Your favourite museum or gallery? The Royal Academy of Art has great exhibitions and a lovely cafe.

The best children’s shop? Hamley’s is still my favourite children’s shop with a wide collection of toys. Also it is fun to go there.

Your favourite parks? Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens have a lot to offer: the Princess Diana playground, exhibitions in the Serpentine Gallery, Kensington Palace, cafés and lots of biking, roller blading and walking paths.

Your favourite neighbourhood or area to explore? Shoreditch.

Your favourite place to walk? Greenwich.

Your most watched British TV show? The Crown.

Favourite place to go for

some quiet? Waterlow Park in Highgate.

Your favourite way to spend a Sunday afternoon? Meeting family and friends.

The most fabulous ice-

cream/coffee shop? Amoroso is an amazing place to have your ice cream.

I felt settled when... I was surrounded by my furniture and the things I love and my whole family is doing fine at university and work.
