my children was diagnosed with a respira- tory condition. In order to support her, I wanted to bring in more gentle and or- ganic cleaning materials, while simultane- ously getting the same level of clean I was used to. Oh, and I wanted it to be cheap, too. I needed gentle, organic, effective and inexpensive. Sounded impossible but I quickly learned it’s very easy.

With a few simple ingredients you can clean your house from top to bottom, leaving it looking great and smelling divine. With these five ingredients you can make a large assortment of cleaning goods like: glass cleaner, all-purpose spray, toilet scrub, wood polish, stainless steel cleaner, silver polish, oven cleaner, carpet cleaner and much more. A typical all-purpose spray only costs about 40p for a full 16 fl oz bottle, and toilet scrub is still less than a pound. Since I have all the supplies in my home at the ready, it only takes a few mo- ments (literally less than three minutes) to toss a few ingredients into a container and it’s done!

The five magical ingredients of DIY cleaning are:

MULTI -PURPOSE CLEANER

Add 12 drops of lemon essential oil, 4 tablespoons white vinegar and water to a 16 fl oz spray. Shake before use.

WATER VINEGAR E S S ENTIAL OI L S BAKING SODA CASTI L E SOAP

That’s it! Combining these ingredi- ents in all the various ways can drastically reduce your dependency on store-bought cleaners and give you the peace of mind that you are cleaning your home with natural in- gredients. Spring never smelled so good!

WINDOW CLEANER

Mix 1 cup (240 ml) water, 1 cup white vinegar in a spray bottle and add 15 drops of peppermint essential oil.

“It often feels the products we are using to clean our homes are more hazardous than the dirt and germs we are trying to get rid of. ”

“Peppermint is a great one to add for window and glass cleaners.”

FLOOR CLEANER

Add 10 drops of melaleuca essential oil, ¼ cup (60 ml) Castile soap, and ¼ cup (60 ml) of baking soda to a bucket of water. Mix and mop.
