Maybe it’s because I’ve lived in the UK for such a long time now that I’ve become one of those people who doesn’t seem to take advantage of everything on offer here. I’m always a little ashamed when friends and family come to visit and they manage to see more of the country in a few weeks than I’ve managed in a several years. So I was eager to read Bucket list Britain from our long-time contributor Amber Raney-Kincade. She breaks down the must-see and do experiences in the UK in such a clever, creative way that you’ll be out and about in no time. In fact, while this issue was in production I took her advice and headed to Northern Ireland and ticked off the Giants Causeway, the political murals and the Titanic exhibition in Belfast. All three are worth the trip and Belfast itself is a great small city for a weekend trip.
We have a bit of a mini theme of travel this issue with the importance of travel for school children in our Education section, a look at Portmeiron in Wales as an unusual short-break destination and it’s all rounded out with a guide to discovering London’s beautiful gardens this spring. While you’re busy exploring everything on offer in this country, you might want to take along our guide to understanding British English idioms. Victoria Rennoldson’s explanation and story behind of some of the most common expressions will certainly help you decode sayings that may have left you scratching your head in confusion.
As with every issue we finish up this one with a great selection of Events & Seminars for members and non-members alike. We look forward to seeing you at one and if your travels take you to Kensington why not pop into the office to say hello. We’d love to see you.
