R Experience Himalayan Basil Yoga Center

range from vinyasa, yin, and restorative yoga, BYC classes are are filled with people of all ages and abilities that are looking for a laid-back environ- ment that caters to those that don’t focus purely on the physical. “Our take on yoga is to primarily focus on breath centered seamless flow in vinyasa yoga, passive release with minimal transitions in

yin yoga, and incorporating the highest end pure and organic essential oils in our restorative yoga”, says Basil Jones, founder and creator of BYC. “In the two decades that I've had 3 studios in this area, I've seen people go through mas- sive life changes and transitions that have required them to reconsider what true wellness and optimal health means to them. Many people have come to us due to injuries from other styles of yoga or physical workouts that were focused too much on ideals like power and endurance, which doesn’t consider the emo- tional well-being of what each person may be coping with on any given day.” Several of BYC instructors are also psychotherapists, somatic energetics special- ists, and hold other certifications in healing modalities that give BYC teachers additional professional skills to draw from.

In addition to group classes, BYC has a second room for private or small

group yoga sessions. With package deals that offer group classes and private ses- sions, students have an opportunity to work intimately with the yoga teacher of their choice, and at an hour that works for the student. We also offer a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training course that has a hybrid-flex system so that busy people in our area can fit teacher training into their lifestyles.

For those who prefer “material enlightenment,” BYC also boasts a healthy life- style boutique. Offering organic skin and body care products, soaps, body washes, and essential oils the retail shelves are stocked with aromatic diffusers, handmade jewelry, yoga books, ecofriendly candles, bathing salts, and sustainably harvested natural sponges. “We also emphasize a positive self-care home ritual to keep the experience with you in your home sanctuary. People feel better when they lose the products that contain irritants and chemicals and swap them out with healthy, clean, and planet friendly options,” says Jones.

BYC also specializes in products for achy muscles and chronic stress. “Our

locally sourced kombucha flies out of here and is so beneficial in restoring gut health. The fermented tea has a slight effervescent quality to it and many people have replaced alcohol in their lives and swapped to the non-intoxicating kombu- cha as a refreshing alternative. “The hot items right now are definitely our CBD products,” Jones adds. “Chocolate bars, gummies, muscle balms, and massage oil help many of our clients who are working on reducing pain medications and over the counter products from their lifestyles. It’s rewarding to hear their stories about how much our yoga center and boutique have enriched their lives. I’m proud of what we have done in the past 6 years at BYC in Ridgefield, and look forward to serving the community for many years to come.

Salt Therapy at Saltana Cave

imalayan salt therapy has been around since 1850, and was originated in Poland. Salt particles found in salt caves are known to be anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-viral. These elements help to alleviate symp- toms related to chronic lung condition, sinus prob- lems, allergies, and skin conditions. Himalayan salt therapy was discovered when a Polish doctor no- ticed that salt miners had the healthiest lungs, upon further research they discovered that the minerals in the salt caves were preventing lung conditions.

Anna Pogoda, the owner of Saltana Cave, struggled with her young daughter suffering from asthma. Pogoda grew up in Poland and practiced salt therapy during her time there. On a trip to Poland, Pogoda decided to have her daughter try salt therapy. After a few sessions Pogoda saw improvements in her daughter’s health and everyday life. Amazed by the results she decided to open her own salt therapy cave in Ridgefield, Connecticut and has been in business for 6 years. Pogoda was inspired to open Saltana Cave by her daughter’s results, her personal connec- tion to salt therapy while growing up in Poland, and the lack of salt therapy in the northeast.

Saltana Cave offers services starting at $40 for 45-minute sessions, and session bundles are avail- able. Sessions begin every hour, and appointments are required to prepare clients for their experience. The man-made cave is surrounded by 12,000 pounds of Himalayan salt and inside the cave guests are seated in comfortable chairs and blankets. Saltana Cave also offers a variety of classes, including ‘sound baths’ that include an hour and a half experience where vibrational energy is generated through Native American drum and crystal singing bowls guided by spiritual teachers. Classes inside the cave are intended to make clients more comfortable and pro- vide relaxing stimulation.

Salt therapy works best when you attend con-

secutive consistent sessions, results are seen at differ- ent times for different people. Pogoda recommends 10 consecutive sessions for clients to see the best results. Saltana Cave also sells salt lamps that clients can take home to further their holistic healing outside of the cave.

Saltana Cave is located at 590 Danbury Road in Ridgefield and is open Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, visit saltanacave.com. See ad on page 14.
