John Pye moves into Chesterfield
Up to 150 jobs will be created in Chesterfield as national auctioneer and Chamber patron John Pye opens its first auction site in the town. The 233,000sq ft site was
acquired by John Pye Property – a division of the John Pye Auctions group - to support the firm’s continued growth. The site will be the second
largest in the John Pye portfolio and comes as a result of an increase in stock volumes from the company’s high street retail clients. Richard Reed, Head of
Property at John Pye, said: “We are delighted to support the wider John Pye group with the acquisition of our new Chesterfield site. “To be able to complete
such a complex transaction in just four weeks speaks volumes about the great team we have here, and everyone at the company is very excited for the opening of the new facility. “The property is
prominently located on the A61, next to Tesco Extra and Chesterfield Football Club. It has superb access to nearby Sheffield and surrounding towns, and is very close to Junction 29 of the M1 Motorway. We expect it will be a very busy auction facility.” Adam Pye, Managing
Director of John Pye, said: “This expansion is an example of our continued growth and ambition. Over the past five years we have gone from strength to strength, and this new site takes our UK salesroom space to nearly one million sq ft nationwide. “The launch of our new
premises in Chesterfield is the perfect way to kick off 2019, which we hope will be another recording breaking year for John Pye.”

Holiday County or Region category – beaten only by Northumberland and Cornwall – fending off stiff competition from other contenders, including Devon, Cumbria and the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. The news was revealed at a gala awards ceremony in London,
attended by more than 800 professionals in the travel industry. “The British Travel Awards are billed as the largest and most
influential poll of consumer opinion on the performance of leisure, travel and tourism providers, so we are delighted that the Peak District and Derbyshire has received such a fantastic accolade,” said Jo Dilley, Managing Director, Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire, the area’s official tourist board. “This is the first year we have entered, so to perform so well is
brilliant, and a tribute to our small, but dedicated team, who work so hard to put the area on the regional, national and international map. “We have so much to offer, from stunning, specially-protected landscapes, exhilarating outdoor activities and brilliant attractions to rich history and heritage, quality accommodation and fine, locally-produced food and drink – so it’s wonderful to be recognised and rewarded in this way.” Derbyshire County Council Leader and Cabinet Member for
Strategic Leadership, Culture and Tourism, Councillor Barry Lewis, said: “We’re thrilled the Peak District and Derbyshire has come third out of ten areas for the best UK Holiday County or Region in this year’s British Travel Awards. “We’re really proud to support the tourism industry, boosting our economy and supporting thousands of jobs.”
