FEATURE MANUFACTURING & INTERNATIONAL TRADE

DURHAM-DUPLEX

Durham-Duplex have manufactured in Sheffield since 1910, initially as a razor blade company and today as a machine knives and industrial blades manufacturer.

Throughout this time cutlery from Sheffield has enjoyed a global reputation for quality, which predates 20th Century steel manufacturing and the invention of stainless steel, which started in the 13th Century.

Cutlery is technically only sharp edged products, such as “thwitels”, scythes and sheep shears which were so essential to life in an agrarian economy. The first Industrial Revolution saw the Sheffield Cutlers develop the new processes and skills required for mass production with cutlery evolving into machine knives, hand knives, table knives, files, augurs, drill bits etc, but all bearing “Made in Sheffield” as a mark of quality products from the distinct geographical location of “Sheffield and 6 miles compass”. This combination of skill and reputation for quality is why Durham- Duplex was established in Sheffield in 1910 and why the company thrives here now.

Durham-Duplex are very proud to be “Made in Sheffield” and are delighted to be modern “Cutlers” selling sharp edge products globally.

The depth of knowledge required to support industry with its cutting requirements takes a long time to build up and needs highly skilled engineers to deliver, both of which are widely available here in Sheffield.
