BARNSLEY & ROTHERHAM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S MESSAGE


There will be huge challenges for many of us, especially those in business, as we look forward to 2019. During the previous year we have continued to make significant strides forward to improve our offering and considerable effort was put into ensuring that 2018 was a successful year, despite the ongoing challenges of Brexit, the lack of progress around the city region’s Devolution Deal and the uncertainty that many of our members faced. However, it is clear that together with our many partners we are making progress and there appears to be a real sense of purpose as we approach what no doubt will be a pivotal year. Again, our key targets for 2019 will be to have a Chamber full of dynamic, involved and diverse members. This will also extend to our partners across the whole Sheffield City Region and especially our two local authorities in Barnsley and Rotherham. We will continue to be recognised as the “go-to” private sector organisation for the voice of business in our locality and we must also play our part as key influencers on behalf of not only our members, but indeed the wider business community. Last year, with strengthened and increased staff numbers, membership and attendances at our events continues to improve, however this year will once again prove to be one of progress and development, to stimulate greater engagement with business and to promote as widely as possible the opportunities for investment within the region. Our acquisition two years ago of Chamber Skills Solutions, has proved to be an ongoing success and we have been working hard to develop our commercial training offer to the region and to further support our members and the wider business community.
