Outermost on the Helgeland Coast, 33 nautical miles out to sea lies the island community of Træna with its 417 islands. This is Norway’s oldest fishing village and one of Norway’s smallest municipalities. Around 500 inhabitants are distributed among the islands of Husøy, Selvær, Sanna and Sandøy. Træna Lighthouse was built way back in 1877.

From the mainland it's about 1,5 hr. with expressboat and 2 hrs. with the ferry out to Træna. Wednesday and Friday all year round, it is possible to take a day-trip to Træna from Sandnessjøen/Nesna.

SANNA – NICE AREAS FOR WALKS Take the boat over to Sanna from Træna – here you have a number of nice areas for walks and many caves dug out by the sea. The most famous one is “Kirkehellar’n”, which is 20 m wide, 45m deep and 30 m high. In more recent times, a tunnel has also been built up to “Gompen” (˜ashligh t mandatory!). Spectacular view on clear days. On Træna there are more than 200 di° erent bird species, and the sea eagle colony has more than 20 breeding pairs.

The islands have been inhabited since the Stone Age, veriÿable by several ÿnd- ings. In Langhågen, archeologists have uncovered 31 house remains dating back to 2000 B.C, and archeological excavation on the island of Sanna from 1937-1939 uncovered remains from old and new stone age, iron age and the time of the black death. The Petter Dass

Chapel, Træna Church (1773) and the Træna Village Museum are all worth a visit.

THE TRÆNA FESTIVAL The internationally renowned music festival doubles the population of the small island community 10 times over during the second weekend in July each year. Visitors who make the trip out are guaranteed intense musical experiences far out to sea! Note: Advance booking of festival tickets, transportation and hous- ing is advised.
