Lurøy, with its beautiful and magnificent nature, is located south of the Arctic Circle. The municipality extends among islands, the sea and mainland, which makes Lurøy an attractive area for various types of outdoor recreation. Whether you come by car, boat, bicycle, kayak, or even on foot, you will find activities just right for you, and you are heartily welcome!
ARMY COASTAL FORTRESS The Grønsvik Army Coastal Fortress is located near Kystriksveien, and is one of the best preserved German fortresses from the Second World War. The Tourist Information o˜c e is situated here as well. Just nearby is the viewpoint where visitors can see all of Lurøy.
HESTMANNEN AND LOVUND Several of the islands’ mountain formations are well known, and this particularly pertains to the “horseman” proÿle of Hestmannen. Guided tours are available here. Away from the coast is Lovund – an island rich in bird life, and one of Northern Norway’s most active island communities as well as one of the leading sites for aquaculture. Thousands of Pu˜ns spend their summers here with their annual return being celebrated locally as “Lundkom- merdagen”. The Centre for Coastal Culture describes the history of the island and its inhabitants. see

Aldersundet (The Alder Sound) in Lurøy is perhaps one of the most beautiful stretches along Kystriksveien, and marks the starting point of the national coastal tourist route, «Helgelandskys- ten».
