d80 DESIGNER KITCHEN & BATHROOM AWARDS 2018

Services to the Industry Award

Honour given to designer Renee Mascari for years of dedication to kitchen design education and raising industry training standards

O

MAR 2015

NOV 2018

ur Services to the Industry category is reserved for individuals whose contribution to the sector extends way

beyond the norm in terms of the wider impact and influence their work has had on the industry.

Renee Mascari has enjoyed a career in kitchen design which dates back to the 70s when she started out working for a Scandinavian company called Kalmar Interiors. As well as designing kitchens, she was also responsible for designing the company’s showrooms. Since then, she has worked freelance in various areas of commercial design too, including bars, restaurants, golf courses, nursing homes and luxury apartments.

Mascari has worked tirelessly over the years to promote and encourage young design talent looking to enter the profession. After achieving teaching qualifications, she taught interior design in further education colleges, before later heading up the KBB National Training Group for over ten years, working to develop educational pathways for the industry.

In 2016, she was awarded the title of Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers and given the Freedom of the City of London accolade.

She has also lent her time as a judge for the Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards for ten years, sharing her knowledge, experience, good humour and fair-mindedness in the course of judging the many kitchen and bathroom entries received.

Of her regular role as an awards judge, Mascari said: “I never take for granted the privilege it is to be invited to judge the very best the industry has to offer. When I see the great young talent we have

aspiring, I am comforted to know that the years I spent developing an education path – not least working with Bucks University in the development of our degree course – is beginning to deliver results as demonstrated in the design skills we are presented with to judge.”

Now retired from all things corporate, Mascari is back at her drawing board as designer for her family business.
