The homeowner needed a place to display his substantial wine collection, as well as storage for his collection of vinyl. The kitchen living space needed to be opened up to allow the pristinely-kept garden to become an extension of their soirees throughout the summer months. The entrance needed to have visual impact and the hallway had to act as an extension of

he brief was to take this already large entrance and three separate rooms and translate them into a grand space that feels cosy, welcoming
the living space/main hub so that for larger parties, it still feels as if guests are all together even if they may be occupying a different part of the house.
Karndean ebony fl ooring was selected in a herringbone pattern throughout the entrance way and into the main lifestyle space to create a fl ow and connection between rooms. Designers Dorian and Babette Bowen fi tted a striking contrasting black and cream carpet on the staircase and painted the bannisters black to tie in with the fl ooring. The huge 2.4 sq m resin artwork was constructed and created entirely onsite, its simple-yet-beautiful marble-like form adds depth, impact and intrigue to the stairwell.
The designers widened the entrance into the kitchen too, which further opened up the room and gave way for the hallway to connect to the room as well as providing a grand entrance. In the entrance to the kitchen there is hidden storage on both sides which also houses the AV control centre as well as being a place for coats and other storage items. The hidden panel doors conceal the walk-in larder, coat room and data cabinets.
The detail continues with the WC, which features a bronze hexagon tile with a dropped LED ceiling which is wrapped in stainless steel to refl ect the bronze tile and make it feel like it disappears into the ceiling.
