This illustrated talk will provide poignant local stories about the men and women of Swale who played their part in the First World War and the impact it had on their families. Organised by Historical research group of Sittingbourne, this talk is free, but tickets are required and available from the Heritage Hub in the Forum.
St Mary the Virgin, Ashford, Gerald Dickens, the author’s great great grandson, performs his masterful one-man performance of Dicken’s most famous tale, ‘A Christmas Carol’. Traditional Christmas Market over 3 days. Great selection of Christmas market stalls, local food producers, street food including hot food and drinks, craft and grocery food stalls for all your Christmas shopping, gifts and crafts. Shops and cafes open late. The lights will be switched on at 4pm on the Saturday in the Town Hall Plaza. Fairground rides for the children, live music, choirs, street entertainment and Christmas carols.
Christmas on the Home Front Kent Life, Lock Lane, Sandling Step back into yesteryear and re-live the festive season in the 1940s. Take in the sights, sounds and smells of ‘Christmas on the Home Front’. Among the attractions will be ‘make do and mend’ lessons, drill displays by the Home Guard, a 1940s school lesson, shops from the era and a rehabilitation centre for injured RAF pilots. Admission prices are: adults £6.95, children (3 to 15 years) £5.95, concessions £5.95, Family Ticket (two adults and two children, or one adult and three children) £21.95. Under 3s and members free.
