Joining Matravers

Matravers aims to make the transfer from Primary to Secondary Education as smooth, easy and successful as possible. We have close working relationships with our feeder Primary schools and many students will have already visited Matravers many times during their time at Primary school.

As soon as places have been confirmed during Year 6, our Year 7 Transition Team visits every child and their teachers in their Primary School. The information collected during these visits is used to place the children into tutor groups and teaching groups. Additional sessions are run in the primary school and at Matravers for children who may find transition particularly difficult and for those with special educational needs. All new students attend two Induction Days in July where they meet the Headteacher, Senior Management Team, Progress Leader for Year 7 and their Tutor. The children spend the day with their new tutor group. We offer two parental meetings with the first being a general information evening. The Induction Evening that follows gives parents specific information required for the start of term and the opportunity to raise any concerns with the Tutor or Progress Leader.

Homework

Homework is an important part of a student’s programme of study. It supports the curriculum by preparing for, or reinforcing, topics covered in class, it helps students to develop skills of independent learning and it allows parents and carers to play an important part in facilitating learning. Consequently, teachers at Matravers will set homework regularly and the importance to students of completing homework to the best of their ability will be emphasised in lessons and in tutor time. However, the responsibility for completion of homework lies with students, supported by their home environment.

At Key Stage 3 and 4, there is an after school homework club. Matravers School Prospectus
