ROYAL WEDDING

While most people will remember Meghan’s dress or that zany American preacher, my overriding memory was when one of the commentators said something along the lines of: “And there are Prince Harry and his four page boys, all dressed in the uniform of the Royal & Blues, tailored by Dege & Skinner…” With the secret now out, William was delighted to

have played such a central role on such a grand day. “We are all, quietly, very proud,” he said. “It’s a great honour and a great accolade for the business.

Dege &

Skinner used 150 metres of Black Russia lace for the page boy uniforms

worn by Prince Harry and his brother and best man Prince William. The other pageboys were seven-year- old twins John and Brian Mulroney – the sons of Meghan’s friend Jessica Mulroney – and Jasper Dyer, six, one of Prince Harry’s godsons. According to ex-British army officer and defence

To be asked to do it is a great feather in our cap and something dear to our hearts. It makes all the hours of hard work worthwhile.” Princes William and Harry arrived at St. George’s Chapel wearing matching frockcoat uniforms of the Blues and Royals. The single-breasted navy frockcoat was decorated with matching loops that cover the buttons, while gold aiguillette was added to William’s frockcoat. Also decorating their uniforms was the Order of the Garter, which symbolises the highest level of chivalry and dates back to 1348. As a page boy, Prince George wore a miniature version of the frockcoats

industry consultant, Nicholas Drummond, there was a special reason behind Prince Harry’s decision to wear a major’s uniform as opposed to that of a general, despite his appointment as Captain General of the Royal Marines by the Queen. “Prince Harry could have chosen to get married in a general’s uniform. Instead, he wore that of his original regiment, the Household Cavalry, and the rank of major. This tells you a lot about the man, his humility and his commitment to service,”

he told his Twitter followers. William added: “The page boy uniforms were a

challenge because – although we were familiar with the grown-up version Harry was wearing – to make it for someone who’s considerably smaller, particularly with the detail on the sleeve, was tricky. On the grown-up version, the lacework on the sleeves goes up above the elbows, so if we used it on the coat for a small chap that would have gone all the way up his sleeve and over his shoulder. Between Harry’s and the four page-boy uniforms we used 150 metres of Black Russia, a type of double-ribbed lace.” n
