KPMG continues to build its Thames Valley and South Coast corporate finance team with its latest recruit, Gemma Legg. She joins the team as corporate finance associate director, based in Reading. A winner of the South East Young Dealmaker of the Year award, Legg was previously based at Grant Thornton. The appointment highlights KPMG’s rapid growth in its Reading corporate finance team – over the past six months the department has made four hires locally.


Regional law firm Coffin Mew has appointed two new partners to its Newbury and Wantage offices. Tim Watkins (right) has joined Coffin Mew’s Newbury corporate team from an independent legal practice in the United Arab Emirates, where he spent 15 years managing international cross-border acquisitions and high-profile commercial projects. These include the establishment of Abu Dhabi’s national airline, Etihad Airways. In Wantage, Derek Walsh (centre) heads up Coffin Mew’s agricultural and rural business practice. Previously he worked for 12 years as an agricultural specialist at another leading law firm where he focused on representing farmers and rural businesses nationwide on sector-specific contract disputes, trading standards and regulatory investigations and property disputes. Surrey law firm Hart Brown has announced the appointment of Jane Crosby as partner within the dispute resolution team. Crosby specialises in commercial litigation and employment law, acting for employers and employees in both contentious and non-contentious matters. Alongside this, she has carved out something of a niche in the field of mobile homes legislation.


Spectrum Corporate Finance has announced that Julia Carruthers has recently joined the team as a senior manager, based in the Reading office. Previously corporate finance associate director and head of financial modelling at HMT, Carruthers is a well- respected corporate finance professional with 13 years’ experience in her field. She began her career in 2005 with J.P. Morgan in Los Angeles, and has gained extensive corporate finance experience. In her role at Spectrum, Carruthers will work with the Spectrum director team on the day-to-day project management and delivery of the transaction cycle.


Experienced salesman James Taylor has joined the team at electrostatics expert Spice Application Systems. With a strong track record in retail and sales management, he has been involved in both the technology and fast food sectors. His arrival at the Oxfordshire- based company follows soon after SAS’s success at the recent Anuga FoodTec 2018 exhibition in Cologne, Germany, where its stand generated dozens of enquiries.


Oliver Wilson and Hahna Hussain (left) have both joined Clifton Ingram’s private client department. Prior to joining Clifton Ingram, Wilson was a paralegal at Lester Aldridge and Hussain a paralegal at Slater and Gordon. Their appointments have now taken the number of people in Clifton Ingram’s private client team up to 16, headed by Peter McGeown. Rebekah Sutcliffe (right) has also joined Reading and Wokingham-based Clifton Ingram, in the firm’s corporate and commercial department. An experienced paralegal, she has prior commercial experience having worked in a number of law firms including Flint Bishop. She is now working in Barry Niven’s team, and will be assisting with corporate transactions, shareholders agreements and corporate governance.

During her 18-year career, Hewitt has resolved various legal disputes for companies and individuals. She is particularly skilled in contractual, service and property issues, shareholder and partnership disputes, negligence, intellectual property, defamation, trusts and contentious probate. More recently, Hewitt spent two years as head of practice area – dispute resolution for one of the largest South East and Midlands-based law firms, Brethertons Solicitors.
