MAKE THE MOST OF APPLES
The humble apple is such a staple of our diet that it is easy to overlook it. Apples are flled with water and natural sugars so they make a great treat for kids whose energy levels might need a boost
between meals. Not only are they crunchy and sweet but they are easy to carry around and eat.
The old adage “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” has many origins. Apples are a great source of fibre and vitamin C. But don’t peel them! An apple eaten with its peel provides an incredible 13% more vitamin C as well as the peel being an important source of antioxidants called polyphenols.

Apples are from Asia The apple is such a common feature of our habitat that it is easy to think of it as a native plant. But it actually originates from Central Asia. And there is no need to stick with a Cox or Royal Gala, there are more than 8,000 varieties globally. So why not experiment a little.
Apples are high in
fibre and vitamin C. The peel is the richest source of vitamins.
The long sunny spells seen this summer mean that the 2018 crop is destined to be a good crop – with some predicting the best tasting apples this century.
