FALL IN LOVE WITH AUTUMN
Autumn is the season traditionally associated with harvest. We celebrate all the wonderful produce that comes from the land and we kick off this issue with a look at the humble
apple. In an era of superfoods, it is easy to overlook. Check out our suggestions for activities and the yummy toffee apple cake recipe.
With the start of the new academic year, it is also time to turn our attention back to school. Budget cuts, increased pupil numbers and a lack of resources are familiar themes for many schools. As a result schools
are increasingly reliant on parents and community to help out.
Volunteering your time can seem daunting when you’re already juggling busy home lives, parental responsibilities and jobs. But we have spoken to four parents who have found ways to give something back to their local school. A common theme through all of their stories is that “Many
hands make light work.” So why not get in touch with your PTA or school office to see what you could do.
As usual we have some fabulous activities. Local artist Jill Evans gives us tips on how to encourage children to draw. Check out our What’s on listings and don’t forget to enter the competitions on page 30.
