MAKING MUSIC


Now in it’s tenth year, Wimbledon International Music Festival brings international artists to Wimbledon as well as giving a platform to exceptional young artists. Local schools have also participated in educational projects for the Festival. Time & Leisure Junior spoke to one of last year’s participants.


On stage with our peers It was a great privilege to perform at the Festival. What makes performances like this so special is that we get to stand on stage with our peers. I played Tzigane by Maurice Ravel, which is a composition full of different musical flavours and colours. This was not my first performance of the work, so I tried to bring a fresh rendition to the audience. Prior to my performance, my teacher and

I would examine the score carefully looking for new angles to express the music.


On the day itself, the audience seemed very appreciative. I was especially happy to see so many young people in the audience, as I feel it is important to encourage young people through culture, art and music.

The Yehudi Menuhin School is a great environment for that, as the school has the right facilities and has given us opportunities such as performing at the Festival.


Kingsley Lin is 17 years old and started playing violin aged 4. He is studying at The Yehudi Menuhin School and performed in November 2017.
