Scanner to aid diagnosis
A private GP practice in Solihull has launched an innovative body scanner that can aid the early detection of skin cancer. The FotoFinder, launched by the Daleswood
Health practice, is a total body scanner which captures the entire skin surface from head to toe and from all sides, creating a map of the moles within a few minutes. A powerful skin microscope can then be used
to analyse any suspicious new lesions and minute changes of concern in old ones. This pain-free examination can be fully
observed on the integrated screen. Dr Oliver Denton, from Daleswood Health,
said: “Skin cancer is increasingly common and prevention is always better than cure. Being vigilant is key and noticing subtle changes is so important to early diagnosis. “At Daleswood Health, we can use the latest
technology to produce consistent images and go further by using a high-powered microscope on any areas of concern.” Around 95 per cent of skin cancer is curable if
it is detected early enough. Early detection can also prevent unnecessary surgery.

Preparing the route is the first step
Energy firm seeks
supplier for gas engines A Solihull-based energy company is seeking tenders from suppliers for gas powered engines that it will use to produce electricity at 32 sites around the UK. UK Power Reserve needs the gas
reciprocating engines to help provide the electricity it is committed to producing for the UK’s national grid. The company recently bought the right to
produce 200 megawatts of electricity at the government’s annual Capacity Market auction, and this will need to be delivered by October 2021. The electricity provider is looking to work with
engine suppliers that can provide highly efficient and flexible equipment able to respond rapidly to the UK’s energy requirements. The engines will be used at the company’s 32
‘mini power station’ sites dotted around the UK - each will have ten engines housed in containers which are fired up to turn gas into electricity. UK Power Reserve was recently acquired by
Sembcorp Industries a Singapore-headquartered utilities, marine and urban development group, with a global presence and plans to expand as an integrated energy operation in the UK.
