Change4Life Sports Clubs
Schools can use their additional school sport funding to set up a Change4Life Sports Club in their area. For more information or to purchase a club package, go to Youth Sport Direct's Change4Life Sports Club webpage.
More about the Change4Life Sports clubs:
Change4Life Sports Clubs is an exciting programme that aims to harness the inspiration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to engage less- active* primary and secondary aged school children in physical activity and school sport.
Change4Life Sport Clubs take the principles and specific skills from a range of Olympic and Paralympic sports and place them in a fun, vibrant and exciting activity club giving young people the confidence and competence to take part in lifelong physical activity. Schools can help engage less- active children in in physical activity and school sport by setting up a Change4Life Sports Club.
Primary clubs Primary clubs capture the essence of the sport without directly delivering sport-specific content, and are grouped under five multi-sport themes:
• Adventure • Creative • Combat • Flight • Target
Secondary clubs Secondary clubs are sport-specific and are designed around a need to increase the opportunities for young people to participate in non-traditional sports and continue that from the school club to the community club.
Case Study How Right
Coach helped Terry Bathe
My Name is Terry Bathe and I have 6 years coaching experience. I have coached in various locations, coaching people ranging from 2 to 45 years old.
I found out about RightCoach in late 2011, whilst at a sports development meeting with Wiltshire Council.
I met with Dominique Oughton at WASP in early 2012 to start my registration process. Dominique was really supportive throughout this stage, making sure I met the necessary minimum standards for deployment. I was deployed by Right Coach in March 2012. The registration process was really simple and was made even easier by Dominique’s support.
Since being deployed, I have received many coaching and work opportunities from RightCoach through their mailing list. Their circulation of course information, details of sports events happening in the South West and potential coaching opportunities is fantastic. It has enabled me to expand my working hours and also create
links with other local coaches and organisations, helping to further my coaching knowledge and experience. I have also attended many courses since joining RightCoach, helping me to support our coaching team’s development. Receiving the information about job opportunities through the RightCoach Newsletter, direct emails, Facebook and Twitter makes coaching opportunities more accessible.
Having a RightCoach Deployment ID badge makes things a lot easier when visiting a school or leisure venue for the first time. Because you have your DBS number on the front and all your qualifications listed on the back, you can be quickly verified by a member of staff, saving taking in a lot of paperwork. Having the card gives you more credibility within this environment and shows schools that having specialist sports coaches delivering sessions raises standards and makes for more affective delivery to their students.
The National Governing Bodies of Sport involved are:
• Badminton • Boccia • Fencing • Handball • Table tennis • Volleyball • Wheelchair basketball
