WELCOME TO WILTSHIRE AND SWINDON RELAY

Welcome to the first edition of the Wiltshire and Swindon Relay the new magazine for school sport in the County.

Our aim in producing this magazine is to showcase some of the best school sport in the County along with the many opportunities schools can offer young people to take part in sports clubs, competitions, leadership, volunteering and the media.

Within this first edition we have included articles from Bitham Brook who were the winners of the 2013 Wiltshire School Games Primary competition and Hardenuish School on their successes in the summer’s Wiltshire School Games competition. You will also find details of the 2014 School Games competitions and some of the new funding available for schools.

As well as promoting school sport we want to see the Relay

Bitham Brook Champions of Wiltshire

Bitham Brook Primary School were recently invited to the Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Awards, a highly prestigious event with the awards presented by Phil De Glanville, former England Rugby Captain, and with guest speaker Paralympic gold medallist Mark Colbourne MBE. This event recognised and rewarded sporting dedication, achievement and success across the county.

Children from Bitham Brook Primary School were awarded the prize for achieving the greatest success across all primary schools

in the Sainsbury’s Wiltshire School Games. Including being Wiltshire Girls Football and Swimming Champions, and West Wiltshire Boys Football and Netball Champions.

Mike Slater, Sports and PE Subject Leader said, ‘This is a fantastic achievement for the school and I am very proud of all the hard work, determination and commitment that the children have made. Sporting success has gripped the whole school so that all the children want to achieve their very best’.

encouraging budding young reporters, photographers, journalists and give them the opportunity to have their work published within this magazine. Schools and students can submit articles, reviews or photographs for future editions. These can cover clubs or events running in your school, reviews of competitions, and interviews with young athletes, PE teachers

or anything that you want other schools to hear about. We will have prizes for the best submissions and look forward to hearing from you.

We hope you enjoy reading Wiltshire and Swindon Relay.

Inspiration Programme Experience Sainsbury’s School Games Level 4 – Talent Inspiration Programme

photos to come

On the 12th to 14th September, I went to Sheffield as part of the UK School Game Talent Inspiration programme. It was an amazing experience where I tried new sports (such as fencing and volleyball), met some new friends and gained knowledge that will help me in my future sporting career.

We took part in a number of workshops with GB athletes

such as Chris Cook, Ben Pipes and Craig McCann. They were really friendly and taught us about “Team You”, goal setting and performance improvement. We also went to the opening ceremony which was AMAZING. It was held at the motor point arena and was staged similar to the Olympic and Paralympic opening ceremony. I would like to say

a massive thank you to Miss Emily Reynolds (West Wiltshire School Games Organiser) who nominated me.

I truly enjoyed the experience and would do anything to do it all over again. The camp has inspired me to be part of team England in the 2014 Games.
