ACDA Continued ACDA Wyoming
Children’s Honor Choir C
ody had the pleasure of hosting the 23rd annual
ACDA Wyoming Children’s Honor Choir with guest conductor Dr. Andrea Ramsey from Kansas City. Students ranging from 4th grade to 8th grade with unchanged voices participated in the two day event.
Cody Elementary Schools and Middle School put together a District Honor Choir of 55 student singers to act as the host choir. They rehearsed once a week from January until May
preparing music from many different genres. This group opened the concert and also sang with the ACDA Honor Choir in a combined finale song.
Dr. Ramsey, noted composer, conductor, and clinician, is a native of Arkansas. She has experienced in her own life the power of music to provide a sense of community, better understanding of our humanity, and rich opportunities for self-discovery. Her teaching experiences range from work with adolescent and children’s voices to high school and collegiate voices. Before leaping into full time composing and guest conducting, Andrea held positions in music education and conducting at The Ohio State University and the University of Colorado, respectively.
Internationally noted conductor and clinician Eph Ehly says of Dr. Ramsey, “(she) is one of those rare individuals whose very presence inspires. Her effervescent spirit, gracious demeanor and
zest for all that’s ‘good’ in life is not only reflected through her personality, but through the music she writes and ensembles she conducts.”
The singers enjoyed working with Dr. Ramsey and her personal approach to creating beautiful music. They sang Two Poems By Emily Dickinson: II. I Never Saw a Moor by Neil Ginsburg, Klee Wyck by Brian Tate, The Moon poem by Robert Louis Stevenson and music by Bret Silverman, The Moth’s Serenade by Paul Fleischman/Andrea Ramsey, El Cielo Canta Alegria by Pablo Sosa, arr. Roger Bergs, and a combined song: The Gift To Sing by James Weldon Johnson/Andrea Ramsey.
In the past, student singers have had the opportunity is work with Dr. Rollo Dilworth, Fred Meads, and Rodney Eichenberger, just to name a few. In June 2019 they will have the opportunity to work with Henry Leck in Cheyenne. Please watch our website
