Fun for family at library

ALVECHURCH LIBRARY has plenty go- ing on for families this autumn, with regular drop-in Baby, Bounce and Rhyme sessions every Mon and Fri from 10–10.30am, and Storytimes every Tues from 11–11.30am and Sat from 2.30pm. There are also a few spaces for children aged 8–12 years in the junior book club, Chatterbooks, which meets monthly on Mon from 3.30–4.30pm.

l With more than 200 children signed up for this year’s Summer Reading Chal- lenge, there are lots of books being read throughout the village. If you are aged up to 12 years then there’s still time to sign up. Children are challenged to read (or listen to) six library books up until Sep 22. There’s lots of Beano-inspired incentives to collect and a grand medal ceremony for finishers in October, with a very special guest.

l Geraldine from the Blue Cross will visit the library to give a fun talk about looking after your pets and staying safe around dogs – lots of useful tips for little ones! Drop in on Mon Oct 8 between 3.30–4.15pm.

l The Young People’s Reward Card was launched at Alvechurch and Wythall libraries in June and more than 100 people have signed up. If you’re aged 11–24 you can sign up, borrow books and collect stamps until your sixth visit, then you’ll have your choice of rewards. There’s also the chance to be part of a long-term volunteer scheme that changes the shape of your local library. It’s hoped that the scheme will be rolled out to all Worcestershire libraries.

l Irene’s Creative Writing class will start again in September, and the library is

welcome. Within easy reach of Broms- grove; parking is available. For info ring Ann Gittins on 0121 550 5246 or see www. halesowenbridgeclub.org.uk
