VILLAGE READER Vicki Stiles has invited people to come to a party and support two charities at the same time. The “Party with a Purpose” takes place on Saturday October 6 at Hillscourt Hotel, Rose Hill, Lickey, B45 8RS from 7.30pm, and will raise funds for Bromsgrove’s Primrose Hospice and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Guests will be able to enjoy light buffet refresh-

The future


of Alvechurch Post Office is still in limbo after plans


for a Simply Fresh grocery store at 14 The Square were turned down on appeal. The Post Office had hoped to move into the premises, whose owners intended to renovate and extend the listed building. However, a planning inspector said the plans would be detrimental to the character of the building and the area, and cause disturbance to neighbouring residents. Alvechurch Parish Council is seeking a meeting with the Post Office to discuss its options.

Green Parish Council was left with two vacancies after the resignations of Sam


Harris and Jenny Jellie. As we went to press there were three interested candidates, and one vacancy was due to be filled by co-option on August 28. The second position will be decided at the next meeting on September 17.


A lack


of waste bins on the Parker’s Piece playing field in Barnt Green led to litter


problems during the summer heatwave. Two bins had been removed because they were no longer suitable and a replacement bin did not arrive in time to prevent the two remaining bins from being overloaded. Parish councillors hope the new bin, now installed in the car park, will be more easily accessible and well used. Dog owners are reminded that they can use any bin for bagged poo, not just a “dog waste only” bin.
