Positive Test Results Let’s talk about the call you receive from the MRO or from your program manager, who has reported an employee that tested positive on their random drug screen, or if your collector reports a positive breath alcohol test to you. Are you prepared to know exactly what to do? Obviously, if you receive a call that a test is positive, the MRO has visited with the employee unless he/she is needing help to locate the employee to interview them regarding their test. Aſter the MRO has talked to the
employee, you must immediately pull the employee from safety-sensitive duties even if they request a split specimen. Do you document in detail for this event? If no, then you should document from beginning to end. Below is an example of a form that can be used for such a situation.
During any given audit, the inspectors

alcohol tests and should also be kept with the file. You must offer the employee the name
and phone number of a SAP in your area and strongly encourage him/her to see the SAP. Explain why it is necessary. It is the responsibility of the employee to contact the SAP for an appointment once they have been given the information. If the employee will be returning to safety-sensitive duty, whether it is with your company or another company, it is important they see a SAP. It will entirely
