Sailability receives grant from MIF

The Marine Industry Foundation (MIF) has announced that it has provided an A$4,000 grant to Sailability at South of Perth Yacht Club. Colin Bransgrove of MIF said the funding is aligned with one of the Foundation’s two core objectives. He stated, “The Foundation provides funds to assist with the training and development of young people in the recreational marine industry and, secondly, to increase the access and inclusion of all people to recreational boating opportunities. In this instance, MIF is pleased to be supporting a voluntary organisation with a solid track record for providing sailing experiences to people with special needs”. The funds will be used for the purchase of new safety gear and another sailing dinghy. The current fleet of nine boats consists of Access 203 and 303 dinghies; an Etchells and three Red Witch yachts.

Lynne Newton is the Co-ordinator of Sailability at the Club. She added, “Sailability at South of Perth Yacht Club has a base of some 40 volunteers. On average, we take 34 participants boating each week during our sailing season.”

More berths at Ocean Marina Yacht Club Thailand’s East Coast region has been strengthened as a prime tourism and business destination by the Government’s ‘Thai Riviera’ project, which stretches from Petchaburi to Ranong. According to Scott Finsten, Harbour Master of Ocean Marina Yacht Club, “We are already seeing the benefits of East Coast growth in the marine industry. Charter and day trips are up 20% year-on-year, the number of new boats sold into the region is up 10% year-on-year and the number of international yachts visiting the area is also increasing on the back of Government changes to immigration last year”. He confirmed that his marina is catering for this increased demand by expanding capacity to 440 berths, an increase of 15%.

Coriolis consultancy re-established After 15 years in the industry and most recently four years as CEO

of d’Albora Marinas, Brett Bolton has announced the re-establishment of his marina consultancy business, Coriolis Marine Pty Ltd (www. coriolis.com.au). He also intends to write regular blogs on the hot topics of the industry.

Having directly managed/group managed 13 marinas in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and New Zealand, he has gained invaluable experience on all elements of marina businesses including: business operations; risk management; head lease negotiations; project approvals & management; design & master planning; mergers & acquisitions; and due diligence. The industry is becoming increasingly bogged down in an environment of government-approval red tape and operating compliance requirements. Coriolis Marine has been established to provide professional advice and assistance to marinas, so they can remain focused on improving their core business.
