EQUIPMENT REVIEW 17 I Seabin floating waste collectors
n April, 2018, Poralu Marine, the exclusive industrial and commercial partner of the Australian Seabin Project,
delivered the start-up company’s very first floating waste collectors. The Seabin offers an innovative,
ecological solution intended for marinas, harbours, rivers and lakes. The clever design moves up and down with the tide, collecting all floating rubbish. Water is sucked in from the surface through a submersible water pump capable of displacing 25,000 litres per hour, plugged directly into a 110/220 V outlet, and passes through a catch bag inside the Seabin,. The water is
Europe, in more than 50 sites. The aim is to sell 400 in the second year. The managers of these sites
then pumped back into the marina, leaving litter and debris trapped in the catch bag to be
Mooring cleats
A wide range of cleats for fitting to the side of floating pontoons and quays using T-head bolts and stainless steel nuts are produced by Aister, which has been designing and manufacturing pontoons, gangways, finger piers, breakwaters bollards and service pedestals for
over 30 years. Its mooring cleats are made from marine-grade corrosion- resistant aluminium. They are available in three
different sizes to meet the requirements of all types of berths in marinas and harbours. These are: standard, which
can withstand up to four tonnes of tension; reinforced, which can withstand up to six tonnes; and super-reinforced, which are intended for mooring megayachts and fishing vessels. These have a tensile strength of ten tonnes. Aister

Recycled vinyl sheet piles
In recent years, environmental protection and sustainable development have become major issues. Arbofer’s sheet piles made from recycled vinyl enable waterfront developers to build and renovate in an environmentally- friendly way as they can be used as a sustainable alternative to sheet steel, timber or rocks. In fact, the recycled plastic resists
oxidation, does not erode, cannot rot and will not pollute the water. The piles have a life expectancy of over 50 years in whatever location they are installed. The product is available in four
colours: anthracite; brown; chalk; and sand. Arbofer

Pedestals for electric boats
Aluminium pedestals with terminals for recharging electric boats at marinas or riverside berths are now available from Ruban Bleu, which builds a range of seven craft powered by batteries, including the Navette capable of carrying up to 30 passengers. The pedestal has a 16 amp,
230 volt power supply and users
of the equipment are protected by a circuit breaker. It can also be equipped with a lifebelt for emergency situations in the marina or along a riverbank. The pedestal measures 25 x 30 x 94 cm and the standard colour is grey. Ruban Bleu

were surprised at the quantity of waste that Seabins are capable of collecting, including the amount of both macro and micro plastic waste found in their waters. In fact, the Seabin is able to recover any micro-waste larger than 2 mm. Up until now, this had been impossible with the traditional techniques employed for the collection of waste floating in marinas. Poralu Marine
