OUTLINE INSIGHT

Redwell Brewery

REDWELL BREWERY

We went to meet Belinda Jennings, Head Brewer at the newly re-launched (December 2017) Redwell Brewery, to find out more about what they do.

O

nly a few years ago it would have been extremely unusual for there to be a

female Head Brewer, now not so rare. What do you think helped this change? Smaller companies, and more hands on, although I have always worked in the industry with women leaders, I guess it just wasn’t talked about as much when I was at Greene King, Marstons, Fullers and Adnams. It is being talked about more now. Do you think Craſt Beer is a driver? Female brewers are talked about more

because of craſt beer, and it has been a driver because of awareness. More women are involved. As younger generations are coming through, it is not so unusual now for female brewers I know this is not your first Head Brewer role, what was your journey to get into brewing? Out of Lancaster Uni, with a degree in biology! Lab technician in a dairy for 3 months, then my mum, mentioned a similar role but in brewing I would be dealing with testing beer instead of milk. At Greene King. I did my degree

in brewing. Progressed to Quality Leader role and trainer, then Quality Manager at Adnams, where I did a Masters in Brewing. Then Head Brewer at Woodfordes. Did that for 2 years. Now Redwell, which is far more my bag, modern, fun, vibrant, can and keg, beer styles, taproom, community led, smaller etc. Prior to joining Redwell, you already had a strong reputation in the industry, why did you choose Redwell? I have always loved the brand and the beer, I followed it from the start,
