Blonde & Chestnut – Re-born!
DIANNE Bridgeman opened Blonde & Chestnut on Novem- ber 5th 2015. The Scandina- vian homeware shop added a stylish, contemporary edge to the independent business in Leiston. However, after a cou- ple of years Dianne decided it was time for a change, perhaps her shop wasn’t quite right for the audience, she had given it two and a half years and it wasn’t growing or evolving in the way she had envisaged. Move forward to July 17th
and Blonde & Chestnut reopens as…………………….yes, a confectionery shop and health
& fitness business. Joining Dianne is her son Tom, so, whilst you will find Dianne in the right side of the shop with the brightly coloured floor sur- rounded by sweets, you will see Tom on the left side which is filled with plants and natural wood, amongst health supple- ments and aids as well as high- end beauty and grooming prod- ucts. Tom has always wanted to
work for himself and having taken business studies at col- lege he has a keen eye for the details that count. When the opportunity to run his own busi-
ness alongside his Mum arose he knew it was the right time. Tom is passionate about health and fitness and this really shines through when you walk into the shop. Tom stocks a selection of vegan fitness supplements which are perfect for adding mass, toning up or simply increasing cardio fitness. Of course, these work in conjunc- tion with a fitness regime, and Tom is happy to share the ben- efit of his knowledge here. Alongside the supplements
you will see high end grooming products including a selection of shampoos and conditioners
that include a de-tangle range and a thickening range. Though this is a unisex range and shop, Tom is seeing more and more gents in the shop as it is now far more acceptable for men to ‘look after’ themselves. Since David Beckham burst on the scene in the mid-nineties there has been a boom in men want- ing to look great – be it physical conditioning or amazing hair, Tom can help with both! It is about helping people feel great. On the other side of the shop
you will find Dianne with her selection of confectionery. As you would expect, this is not
your standard chocolate bars and lollies. Dianne has a range of quality sweets including chocolate, macarons, fudge, flavoured sweets and lollies as well as a candy-floss machine – including three different fla- vours! This shop is about having
fun, people come in and their eyes light up when they see the colourful interior and some delicious treats. Dianne refers to this as her mid-life crisis! She can’t drive so buying a sports car wasn’t an option. She still has children living with her at home, so she couldn’t disappear on a world cruise. But, she had a shop and a vision of creating a fun, interactive place so a sweet shop was the perfect solution! Adults and children alike are finding the new-look Blonde &
Chestnut and loving it! You may think that a health
and fitness business and a sweet shop don’t belong together. In fact, when you look at the end- result, they work perfectly. If you are feeling a bit low or need a pick me up, then the answer is here. If you enjoy exercise you will leave feeling good, like- wise, if you pick up a lolly as a treat after a hard day, you will leave feeling good. People leave this shop with a smile on their face and that is all that Tom and Dianne could want. You really must come and take a look so please call in when you are next in town. You will find Blonde & Chestnut at 20 Sizewell Road, Leiston, or fol- low them on Facebook. For any further details please call 07975 595649.

Alde Valley Suffolk Family History Group
THE July meeting of Alde Val- ley Suffolk Family History Group was treated to a thought provoking talk ‘History Fact or Fiction?’ by Sue Liddell. Sue, an articulate and entertaining speaker, was formerly a tutor in English and History at the Uni- versity of East Anglia. Nowa- days, she is Church Secretary at the United Church, Saxmundam and a lay preacher. She is also an active member of Leiston Read- ing Group and a volunteer at the Long Shop Museum. The ‘old fashioned’ treatment
of history contrasts quite sharply with modern day tuition, where- by students are encouraged to think about past events in the context of prevailing socio-eco- nomic conditions, and from the
perspective of individuals who were directly impacted by them. As to whether history is fact or
fiction, Sue left members of the audience to reach their own con- clusion. Finally, in relation to their own family history research, those attending were left to think about the extent to which knowledge of their own ancestry, beyond the factual details of birth, marriage and death, may have been influenced by the interpretation and recol- lection of events that shaped their ancestors’ lives. After a pause for the peak summer holiday period in August, the next meeting of the Alde Valley Suffolk Family His- tory Group will be on Monday 17th September, when Pip
Wright will give a talk entitled ‘Witches in and around Suffolk’. The talk will be held at the Unit- ed Church, High Street, Leiston, IP16 4EL, and will start at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome; admission costs £1 for members and £3 for non-members, includ- ing coffee/tea and biscuits. Park- ing is available in the adjacent Co-op car park, but you will need to register your car number in-store or face the risk of a £100 fine. We look forward to welcom-
ing you to what promises to be a most interesting evening in the hands of another entertaining speaker.

HAVE you ever had one of those summers that starts badly but ends on a high? Well ours started in May, with me breaking my pelvis, and ended in July with us winning the Community News Facebook competition for 2 weekend camping tickets to Latitude! We were thrilled and even more so when we discovered that we were in Guest camping, close to the arena, with posh loos and showers, and our own bar! We had an amazing weekend. The weather was perfect and Latitude again delivered its unique festival magic with great beer, food, comedy, activities and music. It’s hard to choose favourites but here goes...
H Favourite Food: Eat Thai – fast, hot, delicious and loads of it. H Best Band: James, even if they didn’t sing ‘Sit down’, very closely followed by the Killers. H Best comedy: QI Live – intelligently hilarious, as always, closely followed by a tearfully funny Marcus Brigstocke.
H Best beer: Woodfordes Wherry (more real ale please!!) H Best value: Exquisite henna tattoos and beautiful hair braids in the Lavish Lounge, £5 -15. H Best area: SOLAS- shady and chilled. H Best giveaway: Eat Natural - make your own cereal bar and sample generous portions of theirs while you sit and munch your own.
H Worst thing (yes, even worse than the toilets!): All the rubbish left behind – come on guys, love your planet, bin it, recycle it, or take it home.
Thank you Latitude for another amazing festival and thank you Community News for making our summer.
