Managing Director of The Hearing Care Centre Karen

Finch explained the motivation behind this event: “This year we are celebrating our 20th anniver- sary and we have a wave of exciting events planned to share our success over the last 20 years by raising money for a worthy cause.” Hearing Dogs for Deaf People commits to improving the lives of deaf people by partnering them with fully trained hearing dogs. At the moment, the charity has over 900 working hearing dog partnerships across the UK. These dogs are trained to hear sounds such as the doorbell, alarm clock and fire alarm, sig- nals that their deaf partner may otherwise miss. You can purchase tickets at

www.hearingcarecentre.co.uk/ dogwalk, over the telephone on 01473 230330, or at their main practice on Upper Brook Street in Ipswich.

HALESWORTH ANTIQUES STREET MARKET

SUNDAY 26th AUGUST, 9am – 4pm

ONCE again, the lovely market town of Halesworth is hosting what has become one of the

region’s leading antiques street fairs, the eclectic mix and bus- tling atmosphere attracting visi- tors from far and wide – they may not have known the town before but invariably proceed to fall in love with it! This is one of the very few

antique events set up for charity and which, over the years, has raised getting on for £100,000. Nowadays it primarily benefits the East Anglia Air Ambulance. The EAAA provides a fantastic service but, as each mission costs more than £2,500, it relies heavily on public contributions. Hence, although this event is free entry, it is appreciated if members of the public can dip their hands in their pockets to make a ‘bucket’ donation on the day!

There’s always a great choice

of refreshments including hot snacks and ice creams with many shops and all the town’s cafes and pubs open and doing a roaring trade. Come and enjoy the atmo-

sphere and find some bargains! Visit our website and Face-

book for more information and photos FB – HalesworthAn- tiquesStreetMarket www. halesworthantiquesmarket. wordpress.com Enquiries to 01986 873124 or

Big Band swings into Leiston Film Theatre

SUFFOLK based Big Band, Swing Machine, will be recreat- ing familiar sounds of the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s at Leiston Film Theatre this autumn, with a special fundraising concert, in aid of the venue’s Support Club. This brilliant band, all of

whom are enthusiasts of the swing genre, are looking for- ward to their return visit to Suf- folk’s oldest purpose built cine- ma on Saturday 22nd Septem- ber, after a sell-out debut appear- ance in May 2017. Their reper- toire includes music from Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Ted Heath, Woody Herman and Duke Ellington, to name only a few. The band will also be accompa- nied by two vocalists, who per- form individually and as a duo, covering songs which could include those made famous by Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Bublé and Harry Connick-Jr, amongst many others. With some fantas- tic instrumental soloists comple- menting the band’s arrange- ments, the concert is certain to provide an enjoyable evening of

fine entertainment. The event is supporting Leis-

ton Film Theatre’s hard working Support Club, who, in the past ten years alone, have funded over £100,000 worth of improvements at the prestigious 103 year old venue. Through numerous fundrais-

ing activities and social events, the Club provides financial assistance towards many improvements made at the venue. In 2009, the Club com- pleted their ‘Set the Stage’ proj- ect, improving the Film The- atre’s film presentations and capability to stage live shows. The Club have also greatly assisted in the enlargement of the foyer and installation of the digital projection equipment. Most recently, the Club have pledged to support the Film The- atre’s management’s commit- ment to improve the backstage facilities, which are receiving plaudits from all artistes who have used them. The Club’s ‘Behind the Scenes’ project con- tinues, with an aim to provide new sound and lighting equip-

ment, thus enabling the venue to attract more quality live shows to the stage. These latest improvements

will greatly enhance the stage sets for forthcoming live shows, including The Tucker Show (October 19th) and a tribute to Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison (December 7th). Annual membership to the

Leiston Film Theatre Support Club is just £6 and membership forms are available from the Film Theatre foyer, or by con- tacting the venue on 01728 830549 or email: info@leiston- filmtheatre.co.uk. The Swing Machine Big Band

appear at Leiston Film Theatre for ONE NIGHT ONLY on Sat- urday 22nd September at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £12.95 for adults, £11.95 for concessions and £10.95 for Sup- port Club members. Limited tickets are still available on 01728 830549 or via the venue’s website at: www.leistonfilmthe- atre. Early booking is strongly advised.
