HEALTHY EATING KEY TO STUDENTS’ SUCCESS

his month’s Q&A was split by Debra Braunagel, Director of Food Services for the Mountain Home School District, and Angie Horn, school nurse at Mountain Home Junior High. The women offered their advice for estab- lishing healthy habits in children and getting them off to a good start this school year. They weighed in on some of the questions together, and then
tackled other questions individually. Question: What are some basics
you recommend for getting a child off to a healthy start this school year? Braunagel: One of the most impor-
tant habits for students to establish is they need to get plenty of rest. It should

be 8-10 hours of sleep. Horn: Forming good habits such as eating breakfast every morning and learning how to stay hydrated. The lack of breakfast and hydration can lead to headaches and stomach aches, espe- cially in the morning.
