closet. Coleman helps make brochures and the week before the Back to School Bazaar is a full week of work. “She knew that was my heartbeat, the underdog, the community in need. We both have that passion and started working together on it,” Coleman says. “I think what is really impressive is all the vendors that have come year after year, come enthusiastically. The district and community have rallied around it.” Children should not have to worry

about not having school supplies or shoes or a coat in winter, and Bridges al- lows them to focus on their academics instead of worrying about things chil- dren should not have to worry about in the first place, says Coleman. The volunteers update Facebook when a need arises. For example, they collect Halloween costumes in October for students who cannot afford a cos- tume; pleas for Valentine’s Day cards go out in January or February. There’s no telling what the need will be, says Czanstkowski.

Bridges of Mountain Home is collecting supplies for their August Back to School Bazaar. DEAN CURTIS FOR LIVING WELL

“We fixed a car for a student in high school, paid lunch charges for a student who needed to graduate. We had a fam- ily, they had been without hot water for two years and the student was shower- ing at school but had gotten to the age where that was embarrassing. We part-

nered with someone in the community and they donated their labor and they fixed the hot water. That is the key to Bridges, we have strong partnerships in the community.” They received a grant to provide

laundry services for families who don’t have laundry facilities at home. Czanstkowski hopes to continue building partnerships and is looking for an auto repair shop willing to donate la- bor, or give them a deal on a car repair, because car repair is an increasing need and a broken-down car can lead to job loss or missed school.

With the help of the community,

Bridges of Mountain Home can help ev- ery child realize their potential. “We want the kids to feel good about themselves and know they are better than their situation,” Czanstkowski says. “I know there is someone super talented out there, but if they don’t feel worthy, they won’t pursue their natural ability. It’s important to us that they can pursue that opportunity.”
