Juliana Goodwin For Living Well
W
ithout even realizing it, as a society we some- times create hardships for our students that can affect their sense
of self worth, says Jill Czanstkowski, fa- cilitator for Bridges of Mountain Home. Take something as seemingly harm-
less as Valentine’s Day. For a first-grader whose family has money, stuffing their elaborate Valentine’s box with cards and goodies is a thrill. For a child whose fam- ily can’t afford to decorate a box, let alone send cards to the classmates, Val- entine’s Day is something to dread, not celebrate. For a high school student who has to piecemeal a presentation together be- cause their family can’t afford the poster board or supplies to make it, a simple as- signment becomes humiliating. These are just a few examples of when Bridges of Mountain Home steps in.
Crayons, markers and sticky notes are just some of the items Bridges of Mountain Home will provide at its Back to School Bazaar in August. DEAN CURTIS FOR LIVING WELL
