In the Small Junior Hunters, 15 and under, she rode O’Ryan, a bay Holsteiner gelding (sire unknown), also owned by Stella Styslinger, to second place in the stake and solid ribbons in the other classes. Ending on a high note, Maggie put in a perfect round with Cassanto to win the prestigious Jeffrey Wilson Memorial Challenge Trophy. “Winning at Devon was such a surprise,” the teen says with a smile. “I am so proud of how the horses went and with my mental state!” Maggie is not sitting on her laurels—she’s working
hard to qualify for this year’s indoor and year-end cham- pionships, both in the hunters and in the equitation. She’s also gearing up for the jumpers on her new Norwe- gian Warmblood mare Hope (by Clinton). “I want to grow as a rider,” she says with enthusiasm. “I think if I can improve as a jumper rider, it will in turn help my equitation; same with the hunters. I enjoy it all!”

Maggie put in a solid round on the gelding in the Dover Saddlery/USEF Hunt Seat Medal class. “This is my first year doing the 3’6” classes and I’ve never had to ‘test’ be- fore in the equitation,” she says. “There were eight of us [finalists] and we were asked ride an oxer away from the gate, hold the counter canter, and do a trot jump.” In the end Maggie placed fourth out of 42.
