On top of that many top jumping stallions from the rest of Europe were brought to Denmark and that certainly helped in bringing the standard of the DWB jumping horse to the next level. We believe the Danish bred show jumper at this point is fully capable of competing against the strong show jumper studbooks such as Belgian Warmblood, Selle Français, Holsteiner, etc.,” Brian says. Charlotte and Brian currently own a total of 22 horses

bred for show jumping, all of which are DWB-registered. Twelve are imported from Denmark while two young stallions are still in Denmark. “Since we started in 2012 we have sold a number of horses in the U.S. and all but one were DWB horses,” he explains.

Once-in-a-Lifetime Stallion Brian had long admired the stallion Carmargue (Cassini II x Cantus) since watching his approval in Holstein. He followed the very handsome and athletic stallion’s sport career in Denmark with great interest and was equally impressed with the high number of successful offspring he was creating in sport, despite having only a small number of offspring. Brian had hoped to use the stallion in his own breeding program, but he was unavailable via frozen semen to the United States. As a three-year-old Carmargue became the show

jumping champion of the Danish stallion performance test and as a four-year-old he became the licensing champion at the Danish Warmblood licensing in Hern- ing. He has sired numerous successful young horses who have advanced into the higher levels. In the fall of 2016, the stallion became available for

purchase and Brian jumped at the opportunity to bring a Holsteiner stallion with such a perfect combination of pedigree and performance to his own breeding program and to other North American mare owners. “It was like the childhood dream come true that I was

able to make this happen,” he says. “As a young boy grow- ing up in Denmark, I was always fascinated by horses and especially beautiful powerful stallions. I always dreamt of having one of my own. When I heard from my friend and avid sport horse breeder, Flemming Schultz in Denmark, that there was a chance to acquire Carmargue I was thrilled and with his help we succeeded. I believe Carmargue is the perfect jumper sire with a fabulous pedigree and a very strong performance dam line. He is super handsome, modern and long-legged with a great canter, fast reflexes, powerful jump and almost unlimited scope. And best of all he is mine,” Brian says with a laugh. “We cannot wait to have his first two babies born at Tal- lin Farm this spring.” Tallin Farm also stands the approved Charmeur PH

(Cabachon x Come Back II), who was purchased by the Bech-Hansens as a foal, developed and ultimately

approved by the DWB in 2016. In addition to chilled semen from Carmargue and Charmeur PH, Tallin Farm offers frozen semen from other leading European show jumping stallions.

Auction Surprise “We enjoy the Danish Warmblood auctions,” both Charlotte and Brian concur. “Tey typically have a care- fully selected collection of very high quality of horses from strong performance dam lines and great sires.” In 2015, they purchased a very promising colt, by

Favorit Ask x Come Back II x Prince Mab (TB), at the Elite Foal Auction. “We knew the dam line was strong and we were captured by not only the bloodlines but also the looks and the amazing canter that this young colt showed already at an early stage in life,” Brian says. Tis year Falino PH is three and will be shown at the DWB inspection in August at Tallin Farm, where the couple is hoping the stallion will be approved. Tis year at

the DWB stal- lion licensing in Herning, the Bech-Hansens participated in the Spring Auction, which primarily sells three-year-old colts and young riding horses. Te auction takes place prior to the breed- ing committee’s selection of the young stallions, so when Charlotte and Brian were lucky enough to purchase the young stallion Vong’s Brunello (Balou x Con Capitol x Calido), they had no idea that they would be the owners of an approved stallion the next day. “Not only did he gain an approval on Sunday; he even

became one of a select few premium jumper stallions,” Bri- an says. For the 2018 breeding season Vong’s Brunello is sta-

tioned in Denmark and will later join the other stallions at Tallin Farm in the U.S.

Hot Dam Line Te colt Falino PH DWB that the Bech-Hansens pur- chased at the foal auction is out of a Danish Elite and silver medal mare called Hot Line. Te mare is owned by Mogens Nielsen, who is from the same region in Denmark as Charlotte and Brian and has become a
