Danish Horses Heading to Tryon By Tomas Bach Jensen

Over the last few decades Danish Warmblood horses have represented many different nations at the major equestrian championships, includ- ing the Olympic and World Equestrian Games. Tis fall a number of DWB dressage horses are expected to compete at the 2018 World Eques- trian Games held in Tryon, North Carolina.

in the dressage and show jumping rings—and some were competing for the United States. American dressage rid- ers Tina Konyot and Todd Flettrich were both part of the U.S. dressage team with their Danish Warmblood horses Calecto V and Otto. Both horses had already been interna- tionally successful outside the U.S. Tina and her black-brown stallion (Come Back II x

W

Rastell) made it through to the Grand Prix Special. Te pair continued their career at major shows like CDIO5* in Aachen several times, the 2012 Olympic Games in Lon- don and the 2014 World Cup final in Lyon, France. Later that year they went back to France to represent the U.S. at the World Equestrian Games in Caen. At the 2010 WEG in Kentucky, the Danish dressage

team had three Danish-bred horses; all made it through to the Grand Prix Special. Te best Danish combination was Princess Nathalies zu Sayn-Wittgenstein riding her home- bred Danish Warmblood Digby (Donnerhall x Sandro) into an individual seventh place in the final Grand Prix Free- style. Te best Swedish team result in 2010 was achieved by Minna Telde riding the DWB mare Larina-Høm (Solos Landtinus x Carano). However, the most outstanding DWB horse in Ken-

tucky was the giant chestnut Mistral Højris (Michellino x Ibsen), ridden by Laura Tomlinson (nee Bechtolsheimer) to claim nothing less than team bronze and individual bronze in the Grand Prix Special as well as in the Grand Prix Freestyle. Te pair had already won several medals at international championships and went on to secure Brit- ish gold at the London Olympics in 2012, where they also claimed an individual bronze in the Grand Prix Freestyle. Speaking of Danish Warmbloods at the 2010 WEG,

it is essential to mention the beautiful grey show jumper Chianto, ridden by Canadian John Pearce to finish twelfth individually.
