Mountain Home is a first-class city


with a mayor/council form of govern- ment. It is divided into four wards with two council members representing each ward. A ward’s size is based on pop- ulation. While council members repre- sent the wards, they are elected at-large by all voters in the city. They serve two- year terms. Elected officials with four-year terms


are the mayor, city clerk, city attorney and district judge. The police chief, fire chief and treasurer are appointed posi- tions. City offices are located in the Municipal Building, 720 S. Hickory St., unless otherwise noted. Mountain Home has a 1.375 percent


city sales tax. Half the city’s 1 percent sales tax goes to the Street Department, $350,000 goes to the Water and Sewer Department, and the remainder goes to the General Fund. The city’s 0.375 per- cent sales tax goes to police and fire departments. The total sales tax in Mountain Home is 9.875 percent — 6.5 percent state, 2 percent county and 1.375 percent city.
